LOUNGE MAKEOVER

Episode 6 Series 10
TX Date: 3/08/09

Anne-Michelle Serage (29), Taylor Serage (12) and Stephen Mitchell (32)
Papakura

BACKGROUND

Stephen and Anne-Michelle and twelve year old Taylor are a young family who are incredibly stoked about buying their first home – even if it is a pretty rundown 1950’s house in Papakura!

They are a colourful, fun loving family with a penchant for fancy dress and karaoke.

But beneath their happy exterior lurks a deep dark secret.  Stephen has a secret addiction.  No, its not P.  It’s Transformers….yes, those 80’s collectible toys.

So with all their money spent on his addiction, there is NO money left over to spend on their home.  Which just quietly is a dump.

Their lounge is the worst feature of their house – with its peeling off wallpaper, tatty furniture and GREEN carpet, not to mention the GUINEA PIGS that outnumber the human inhabitants.

They really needed some help.

They were praying for an Extreme Makeover.  But apart from their unfortunate lounge, they had too much going for them.  So instead, they got….My House, My Castle, The My House, My Castle Edition.

CREATING THE LOOK – RETRO ECLECTIC
(Our Exhibitors are highlighted in RED Bold)

Hamish decided to go for a retro eclectic look, maximising their love for the seventies and eighties, but refining it to give it a more glamourous edge.

Mixing old retro furniture from Trademe with retro inspired pieces from Freedom as well as some Cocksy one off original’s the result was a funky and ambient lounge that oozes personality.   Cocksy’s 70’s curved booth was the piece de resistance in this stunning transformation.

Stephen was so stunned when he saw the finished lounge he forgot he was on a family show and said the F word on national television!  Ann-Michelle was reduced to tears – they absolutely loved it!!
