Dave and Janie are the classic kiwi DIY couple.   Nothing is finished in their house.  And worst of all they are terrible hoarders!  Their basement bedroom is filled with old junk, and their clothes are strewn everywhere.

As Janie admits – they just stopped seeing the mess years ago. 

The walls are yellow, there is old blue and yellow duvet covers hanging up as curtains.

In summary – it is a tired, dated, messy hovel!

But it is big, it has an old bathroom and an adjoining room suitable for a walk in wardrobe.  And it has doors opening onto a deck…if ever we saw a room with potential, this is it.

‘CREATING THE LOOK’ OPULENT RETREAT

Hamish decided to create an opulent retreat for Dave and Janie…a luxurious space that will make them feel like they are at a five star resort.

The gold bamboo wallpaper set the scene for the for the rest of the room which oozes glamour with its lux lounging area, beautiful bedding and a chandelier!

The custom built walk in wardrobe and gorgeous ensuite bathroom make this a retreat from the world Dave and Janie will rarely want to leave!

But the real point of difference was Hamish’s inspired idea to put a bathtub on the deck, with a gorgeous freestanding fireplace, the result is to die for!

Dave says it all when he sees this truly stunning transformation: I have felt like an expectant father waiting to see it…boy or girl? Boy or girl?  Instead….I got the HILTON!!”

COCKSY’S SPECIAL PROJECT

·          Cocksy built some faux oak shelving at a total cost of $900

BARGAINS:

·          Second hand chandelier
·          Hamish spray painted a mirror he picked up from a secondhand store
·          Hamish made some home-made bedding with fabric from Charles
      Parsons
·          Hamish purchased a secondhand lounge suite and covered it in a
      Charles Parsons stripe for $350
·          Cocksy built in some shelving out of ply and pine and stained them 
      dark to look like an opulent oak.
